North Wales Trip – September 2009
Our first club trip for some time, but what a trip!
Debbie and Mark did a wonderful job organising this trip to North Wales, basing us in a wonderful old house, which slept 10 people.
Friday 25th September found us all meeting in McDonalds, Pontypool for a cup of coffee, (and some of us, breakfast), for the trip north.
We were all in three cars and Debbie and Mark had the forethought to supply us with walkie-talkies so that we could keep in touch with each other in case we got lost!
Not only that but she also prepared a quiz for us to try out on the way up.
When we arrived we all selected our rooms for the weekend and then went into Bala to purchase some food for the weekend. We then went down to the local hostelry, for dinner. On our return to the house we then partook of some liquid refreshments and nibbles and more quizzes that Debbie and Mark had prepared until it was time for bed.
At 5am sharp, some of us, (no names mentioned), got up and went down to Lake Bala to catch the sunrise over the lake. Unfortunately, all we saw, were a few ducks and clouds, but we tried!
On our return to the house we then had breakfast. This comprised of eggs, bacon, sausages, beans and tomatoes with toast and coffee. This set us up for the day.
We then left for Llanberis where we spent a few hours looking around the slate museum before taking the train to the top of Snowdon. Yes, we took the train. When we left there was some cloud about, especially on top of the mountains in the area. We were not too sure if we would get any good views from on top, but we were really lucky, because on the way up, the clouds parted and we had wonderful views of the mountain and countryside.
On top it was just as clear with one side of the mountain being completely clear and the other being total cloud, but we were above it, so it seemed as if we were in a plane, and the clouds were below us. We only had 30 minutes on the top and the time went so quickly before we had to climb aboard the train for the return journey. The views on top were truly wonderful as you can see from the images.
We then went back to the house and dinner and the obligatory evening quizzes and refreshments.
The following morning there was no early rising, due to the cloudy weather, but after another wonderful breakfast, the group split up and some went to King Arthur's Labyrinth Underground Adventure - An Underground Storytelling Adventure in Corris, near Machynlleth in Mid Wales, while the rest went over to the west coast and they all met up at Harlech Castle later in the day. Home via Llangollen, Elan Valley.
The whole trip was a complete success thanks to the preparation by Debbie and Mark and the support of the rest of the group. We all look forward to the next rip to Cardigan in the new year.
Here are a few images of our trip.

On Saturday 30th May 2009 a few stalwarts of the club, took it upon themselves to represent our club at the above fete. I understand that they were very enterprising and offered to take photographs of the children who got involved in FACE PAINTING. The photos were then sold to the childrens parents for a nice profit. Well done to you all. (Full report to follow.)
