WPF NEWSFLASH Latest news from the Welsh Photographic Federation

WPF NEWSFLASH 385 13.03.2008 – Dates & Events for your Diary!

1. Ace of Clubs – Talbot Green 17th February 10.00 a.m.
This is the first time that we will be running the event using Digital Projected Images and 11 Clubs are expected to pit their images and wits against each other for the Trophy and the opportunity for the top 2 Clubs to represent the WPF at the Warwick PAGB Inter Club Competition in June, it will be worth attending not just for the photography but also for a chance to see this new style competition and how it works – to facilitate your Club’s entry next year.

2. WPF AGM – Talbot Green 2nd March 2.30 p.m.
Come along and take part in this important meeting which should set the style and tone for 2008; and of course it’s the closing date for the Welsh Salon so bring your Club’s entry along as well.

3. WPF Distinctions and Awards Day – Talbot Green 20th April 10.00 a.m.
Following on from suggestions at the Club Workshop last year this day is intended for Photographers who are interested in measuring their achievements against the standards that various UK and World bodies provide. We will provide an hour platform each for representatives of the WPF, PAGB, RPS, FIAP and PSA to explain and demonstrate the standards required and methods that can assist you in obtaining the various awards that exist in photography. Come along and learn how to take your hobby to the next level.

4. AWPF Distinctions Workshop – Trostre Camera Club 18th May 10.00 a.m.
The AWPF Adjudication day is held each year in October and we try to organise a Workshop to provide advice and reviews to prospective applicants early in the year so that they have a chance to tune their panel to it’s best advantage. Last year we tried to move this event out West to New Quay Camera Club but this was too far out and only had a few prospective attendees. Now thanks to the hospitality of the Trostre Camera Club we are trying again to go West but not so extremely - hopefully this will attract those that have missed out in the past.

Ian Parnell is a world class mountaineer and photographer. Amongst his accolades he has taken Sir Ranulph Fiennes up Everest and the Eiger and has filmed/photographed both events for television and we have been fortunate to be able to book him to provide a wonderful talk and presentation at the Borough Theatre. Further details from Glenda Fish Abergavenny Camera Club

9 RPS Digital Photography Day Coytrahen Community Hall, Nr Bridgend – 15th March – 10.00 a.m.
Photoshop Techniques for Personal Expression Lecture with Clive Haynes FRPS Tickets £10 in advance (£8 for Member of the Digital Group)
Clive has always sought to share the joy and excitement of photography and picture- making with a wider audience.  He enjoys sharing his knowledge in an open exchange with an audience and he definitely does not believe in ‘keeping secrets’.

The presentation will cover a range of Photoshop techniques with the emphasis on good practice, efficient working and insightful picture-making.  The talk will deal with practical image-making issues and methods in the ‘real world’, in this way, the talk is very much picture-based, rather than the exploitation of technique for its own sake.

People attending the talk should leave with the enthusiasm to develop the methods demonstrated and be able to apply them directly to their images.

10. PAGB Awards CPAGB, DPAGB, MPAGB – information
With regards to PAGB Distinctions, the November Adjudications are filling steadily and we have about half the total in some categories.
The Credit Print and Distinction Prints are the most popular
We do have three entries for Credit Slides - a couple more and this section will run
Distinction Slides - provided no withdrawals this will also run
Master Prints - would you believe not one entry for this section!
Master Slides - one more entry will make this section viable.

At the Executive Meeting last weekend the following amendment was made to the conditions of entry:-
In the event of an Applicant wishing to withdraw from an Adjudication they will be offered the following alternatives:-

1   to have their fee refunded less a £10.00 Administration Charge
or

2 to have their entry transferred to the next Adjudication plus one.  (i.e. someone entering in Nov this year will be transferred to November 2009 - not earlier)   If the applicant subsequently withdraws from this second Adjudication they will forfeit their total fee.
